EIchenring Scheessel

Description

Eichenring is a race track on sand, unfocused to the east. This track, located about three kilometers from the city center, is currently one of three places in Germany where the Speedway World Championship is held on a long track. Since the early 1990s, it has also gained national recognition as a venue for the Hurricane Music Festival.

The original Eichenring track was created in 1951 on the territory of the former hippodrome in Appel, near Helvesik (approximately ten kilometers north of Schessel). The original length of the route was 850 meters. The Scheeßel sports club headed by the racer, which changed its name to the Eichenring Motorsport Club (officially MSC Eichenring) in the same year.

In 1963, railway transport in Appel did not meet the requirements of the international association. For this reason, the modern Eichenring track, which originally had a length of 1000 meters, was built on a vast plot of agricultural land near Schessel and was opened the following year by the final stage of the European Championship in 1964.

In the following years, the stadium turned into one of the most modern in Europe, and the track was expanded to a 1300-meter-long sandy track. Speedway races are held on this track as part of the German, European and World Long Track Championships. Eichenring was the venue for the Long Track World Cup finals in 1974, 1980, 1988 and 1995. In the 1998, 2002 and 2022 seasons, this facility was included in the calendar of the Long Track World Cup.

In 1973, for the first time there was a massive open-air concert called "Es rockt in der Heide", at which famous musicians and bands performed, including Chicago, Chuck Berry and the Golden Earring. One attempt to win in 1977 in connection with an event called "First Rider Open Air" came as a surprise due to the fact that in 1977 he was chosen as the organizer of Conchert. Many of the 21 Zaran ansibley groups, who did not even come to visit, and in fact did not get into all the several players, just like Camel, Colosseum II, Golden Earring, Van der Graaf generator and Long High Ernie and Shakers. This led to outrage among the music lovers who arrived, and there were riots with injuries, and the stage and its acoustic system were set on fire and completely destroyed.

In 1992, another rock concert, the "International Biker and Rock Festival", was canceled due to the discovered financial fraud of its organizers.

In 1997, the "Hurricane Festival" was again held at the Eichenring — a major open-air musical event, which has since attracted more and more music fans every year. The record attendance of this festival was recorded in 2005 and amounted to 60,000 spectators.
