Monte do Gozo

Description

This place is widely known by several similar names. Monte-du-Gozo is the name of the hill, translated as "mountain of joy", often also used simply as Monxoi, which coincides in meaning.

The name of this hill goes back to the joy felt and expressed by the pilgrims who saw the towers of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela from its top after a long journey.

At the top of the hill is the extensive Ciudad de Vacaciones Monte do Gozo complex, built in 1993 for pilgrims. There are a variety of social facilities: stylish bungalows, a 500-bed hotel/hostel, a campsite, the Monte do Gozo auditorium for open-air concerts with performances by the world's leading pop music artists. The complex also includes beautiful gardens and picturesque walking paths, covering a total area of 65 hectares.
